I've always enjoyed Mad house attractions. Arguably this is the parks dark ride Attraction.  it needs a rehab and often one of more effects don't work but the attraction continues to be fun. I particularly enjoy riding when someone dosn't know how the ride works. Its as much if not more fun to watch new riders get freaked out as it is to ride.

I agree it needs some new love, but I think at some point this ride will leave as for some reason, they don't really keep up with the effects and not sure about the attraction ridership numbers.  It's a great ride, I personally love it and would hate to see it go!

not sure either. Generally when I ride it it's half to nearly full. But it doesn't fill the full queue and the switchbacks have not been used in years.

I think either people don't know about the ride or people don't care about the ride anymore! The old switch backs are what is used for Midnight Mansion, If the Ride does leave at some point, I do wonder what would happen if they revamped Crack Axle Canyon and that area was demolished for new attractions .  I mean people do love Midnight Mansion , but would all the haunts be put to picnic grove and what would or could replace that area is the question, I shut don't see them getting rid of it just yet as there are a lot of things that need to be done to the park.  I think Houdini is safe for a little while longer, but who knows at this point!

The building with the ride and switchback area is reasonably big.  They could put in a real dark ride.  but that wouldn't change the fact that The back end of crack axle is often dead. the area is a Dead end that is blocked of a bit.

Any word as to what’s going on with Houdini?   I remember a few years back the same ride at Great Adventure was closed for an entire season (rumored to be removed) but ended up being restored instead.  It seems odd that it has been closed for so long this season.

I think that long closure at SFGADV was related to NJ emergency evac regulations.  As I remember, they were eventually able to make the needed changes to re-open. The problem with these rides IMO is that the effect is the show and once you have done it loses impact on repeat rides.  Since there are not an infinite # of new patrons for a regional park the demand to ride diminishes to the point where there is almost never a line.  Add to this the dead end location and you have an attraction that draws poorly.

I have to agree.  Though there is easy tech that allow randomization of effects and controls that you can make the ride feel more unique as you ride again.  Clark's updated theirs and I think they have 8 or 9 programs. The dead end is an issue for Houdini as it is an issue for all the rides in that section. If there was a major draw attraction it wouldn't be so ad but you have 3 filler attractions.  the problem with these whole section is the 2 big things the food and Goliath are in the middle. there is nothing to promote the need to hike further back.

a haunted mansion ride would be pretty bomb just sayin
but I do love Houdini- my boyfriend @bubber11 loves pointing out the horrified newbie faces and we get a great chuckle out of it

The problem is crack axle needs a total new makeover! Plus needs new rides. Nobody goes really in the area except to go to JB’s

I love Houdini but that section of the park needs lots of love!

I agree but its hard to work in a high draw attraction in the back section. Only way to really make room is to build over or remove that maintenance building.
