I think they have said memberships are being honored until they expire.

And now SF has listed vastly more expensive season pass options at SFMM and SFFT.  I am sure it won't be much longer until all the other parks follow suit.

Screamscape is reporting that SF Corporate is now phasing out the Membership program and will be going with pay all up front season passes.  Talk about not being able to make up your mind!!  LOL

Lake Compounce / Holiday Lights 12/10
« on: December 11, 2021, 06:00:43 am »
We got to LC for Holiday Lights last night.  We walked the park and enjoyed the lights but the busy/festive vibe of previous years just wasn't there.  There were less specialty seasonal food selections, no ice carving type displays, and no food trucks.  The food trucks over the last few years added a lot to the event.  LC had some of their food locations open but nothing like previous years.  They did add a Christmas themed show in the ballroom and I am sure the little kids liked it.  We used our passes for admission but if I had paid the $20 gate price I would have been very disappointed.

We did the SFNE Holiday in the Park drive thru this week.  The park looked great.  There weren't many cars so we easily drove thru in about 25 minutes. They had a menu of snacks at the gate and a pick up area just inside the park.  It looked pricey and we had just had dinner so we passed on that.  Having the park drive thru Mon-Thur and open with rides Fri-Sun seems like a good strategy.

We got to Hersheypark for their Christmas CandyLane event yesterday.  It was a long drive but it was nice to get out.  The park was well decorated but really not any better than SFNE, SFGADV or LC.  We did get a night ride on Candymonium which was much much better than the daylight ride we had earlier this year.  They also have a separate admission drive thru Christmas display called Sweet Lights.  It was certainly the longest attraction of this type we have ever done.  It was over 3 miles long.  It was pricey but very well done.

Parks In The United States / Universal IOA
« on: November 16, 2021, 01:35:28 am »
On a whim we used Casey's flight benefit to go to Orlando for the day on Monday to go to Universal IOA.  We have been there many times over the years but this trip was mostly for VelociCoaster.  People we respect told us it was awesome and that is an UNDERSTATEMENT.  We rode three times.  All rides were in the front and the last one was in the dark.  Fury 325 has been my #1 for 6 years but not any more.  This Intimin is something every enthusiast should get to experience.

Ride Discussions / Re: Fireball

We never rode it but I can see how some folks may have enjoyed it.  SF counting these things as a coaster was always a joke.  It will be interesting to see what actually goes into that spot.

So SFNE released their ride lineup for HITP 2021.  It is very much scaled back from previous years and no coasters except Thunderbolt.  Previous years had Batman, Riddler, and Joker open.  It probably has a lot to do with available staffing.

Parks In The United States / Re: Six Flags Great Adventure
« on: October 12, 2021, 07:59:31 am »
We made a Jersey trip yesterday.  It was supposed to be for two new coasters which both would have been new style of coasters for us.  Rolling cars on Xolo Loco @ Casino Pier and monorail track on Jersey Devil @ Great Adventure.  Since Casino Pier decided not to open 49 minutes before opening time (royally pissed about that) it became just Great Adventure.

Jersey Devil was a fun ride.  The park was slammed yesterday when we arrived from the unsuccessful shore part of the trip.  The line for JD was just over an hour.  The setup and crew there were dispatching trains of 12 riders just about every minute or so, so props to them.  The loading is done while the train is slowly moving thru the station which allows the fast dispatch.   The downside of the hour wait was the strictly enforced no loose articles policy.  They don't care about zippered pockets.  It is nothing in your pockets or you get the boot.  That means no phone to catch up with work which made me unhappy.

So I enjoyed the ride but I would not wait more than 15 or 20 minutes ever again.

New England Carnivals & Fairs / Re: The Big E
« on: September 22, 2021, 09:26:56 pm »
After skipping last year due to Covid, The Big E is back!  It runs thru Oct 3.  We spent the day there today and had a great day.  The circus was vastly better than the last couple times and we enjoyed it.  We toured the state houses and had the traditional Maine Baked potato. The Midway was vibrant and we rode a couple of new to us coasters.

The highlight of the day was participating in the parade.  We bought a spot on a Mardi Gras float to throw the beads to the crowd.  It was so much fun!     We finished the day with some fried pickles that were very good.

The rain pretty much held off all day until we were driving home.  I would recommend a visit to all.  You will find that admission is reasonable, lots of free entertainment, food is pricey.

There is not much of a worker shortage.  Sure some people left the workforce due to childcare and covid fear but that isn't the issue anymore.  There are plenty of workers available!  What there isn't is plenty of workers willing to work for minimum wage or even worse.

As for the parks, they ARE whatever people think they are!  The parks do not just get to decide how they are seen as an employer because it is part time/seasonal and that "is how it has always been."   They will have to compete for workers and if their offer is not attractive enough they will be short staff and be providing an inferior product to their customers and we all know where that leads.

My point is that in the last 18 months the environment of employment has drastically changed.  Employers, including seasonal parks, will need to adjust to the new world or they can just hope for "the good old days" at their peril.

The long and the short of it is that many people found new ways to support themselves during the pandemic.  And I am NOT talking about enhanced unemployment.  Employers are going to have to understand that they are now competing for workers and the most important thing will be the compensation, working conditions, and perks/benefits.  The old days of minimum wage, take it or leave it, are over.  Workers are using the new leverage to force employers to sweeten the pot.  Those that don't will be the ones crying about people not wanting to work.  They are deluding themselves.  People do want to work, but not for the BS slave wages of the past.  Employers will have to go bigger and decide to make less money or increase their prices.    Cedar Point was having hell filling jobs, was cutting days and crying.  Then they announced all jobs in the park would be at least $20 per hour.  Soon after, they opened 7 days and I didn't hear a peep about closed rides, food locations etc there after the rocky start.  Covid has brought in a new world and employers will need to adjust.  Those that do not adjust risk everything.

Quassy / Terror at Quassy
« on: September 16, 2021, 12:06:26 am »
Screamscape is reporting that Terror at Quassy, the new Halloween event for the park, is being run by the Haunted Graveyard folks.  When Graveyard and LC parted ways the Graveyard folks said they were going to find a location to go solo.  Since that has not happened yet they have now partnered with Quassy.

Six Flags New England / Re: SFNE GOLDEN TICKET
« on: September 11, 2021, 03:36:04 pm »
2021 Golden Ticket results are announced. Best wood was Phoenix.  Best steel was Fury 325  Locally in wood it was El Toro #3. Boulder Dash #4. Comet (Great Escape) #20. Locally in steel it was STR #4. Nitro #14. Wicked Cyclone #42.

It is hard to believe that year in and year out that 2 of the top 10 coasters in the world are right here in New England only about 40 miles apart.
