APEX closes both of their amusement parks
« on: February 19, 2020, 01:06:12 pm »
After failing to find buyers for Indiana Beach and Fantasy Island, Apex has announce both parks will be permanently closed and all rides are for sale.  We never got to Indiana Beach.  But the Silver Comet at Fantasy Island was a special woodie and will probably be a great loss as wood coasters don't get purchased and moved much anymore.

They also closed their TX FEC's They are blaming the parks for underperforming but a closure this wide reflects poorly on the company as a whole.

I recall on and off whispers of Indiana beach looking for a buyer but I don't recall seeing anything about Fantasy Island being up for sale.

I believe Silver Comet is on the market, along with all the steel coasters

Have you seen the listing anywhere? I'm on the sales sites from time to time and really haven't seen anything from either park.

The story I read said they will be putting all up for sale, so maybe not on the sites yet.  As for the Silver Comet, it is only just a bit over 20 years old.  I hope somebody buys it and moves it but the cost to take it apart and reassemble are likely not worth it.  The wooden coasters at Geauga Lake were for sale forever with no takers.  Likewise with the Dania Beach Hurricane, The Hurricane at Pavilion Amusement Park in Myrtle Beach and probably a bunch more I cannot think of right now.

The problem with relocating a wood coaster is you really can't relocate the track so after you relocate the reasonable structure you have to build the track. If it doesn't stay close I don't see it moving. so Seabreeze or DL seems to be the only practical locations.

Indiana beach I don't see those woodies surviving They are built to wor with the area and that will make relocation and installation hard.

Saw this not too long ago. fantastic news. We've lost enough parks. It would be good to see another one saved.

It is good to see. Fantasy Island as far as I know only has the water ride, the train, and the coaster left aside from a handful of buildings but I think that is plenty to build on.

Has that been fully confirmed yet?

Maybe he just hates to see these parks die off.

^That is exactly what he said.  Indiana Beach was his childhood park.  He said he knows how the local people feel about Clementon because he had that feeling as IB was "closing" and did not want them to lose their childhood park.  You gotta be rooting for that guy.  We haven't been to Clementon in years but are watching for opening info so we can plan a trip this year and lend a little support.

That is good to hear.

There is definitely a place for these smaller parks.  it's just a matter of making them welcoming and scaling them to fit their attendance.  I mean look at all the small parks around NE that are still around Quassy, Storyland, Santa's village, Clark's, palace, etc are all small parks and do very well by focusing on the right additions and not over-expanding.
