LC 7/17
« on: July 17, 2021, 08:40:12 pm »
We had a disappointing visit today as BD was closed.  There was nothing on the website or facebook or even on the sign outside the park.   There didn't seem to be any staff assigned to the ride so it wasn't likely to open anytime soon so we rode Phobia, ate lunch and hit the road home.  Not at all what we were expecting.  I see the park closed at 4 PM due to storms but it would have been good to get a few BD rides prior.

That stinks I visited the park on the 11th and they had listed BD and Wildcat as closed outside but when we got in both were operating.

I know Canobie is closed Tuesday s and Wednesdays.Story land announced the whole back of the park including Roar-a-sourus will be closed for a while in the afternoon. every park seems to have a awkward number of rides and attractions down.

It has and sadly there are too many people that don;t want to work. It also seem no mate r what they do there are people pissy over minimum wage. It's a season job its not something you make a living off of.

Even there they have had to pay more which means higher prices on food, game, admission, etc.

The long and the short of it is that many people found new ways to support themselves during the pandemic.  And I am NOT talking about enhanced unemployment.  Employers are going to have to understand that they are now competing for workers and the most important thing will be the compensation, working conditions, and perks/benefits.  The old days of minimum wage, take it or leave it, are over.  Workers are using the new leverage to force employers to sweeten the pot.  Those that don't will be the ones crying about people not wanting to work.  They are deluding themselves.  People do want to work, but not for the BS slave wages of the past.  Employers will have to go bigger and decide to make less money or increase their prices.    Cedar Point was having hell filling jobs, was cutting days and crying.  Then they announced all jobs in the park would be at least $20 per hour.  Soon after, they opened 7 days and I didn't hear a peep about closed rides, food locations etc there after the rocky start.  Covid has brought in a new world and employers will need to adjust.  Those that do not adjust risk everything.

I noticed there are 3 things going on with workers. there are some still afraid of COVID and waiting it out, then there is a small percentage that are milking it as long as they can and the third is what you are saying! People got sick of their old jobs, found better paying ones! The companies will have to adjust or face their own demise! There should not be a minimum wage! There should be a living wage .

As stated above, Theme Parks are seasonal and aren't meant to be what people think they are.lol I jsut hope this work shortage ends sooner, rather than later!

There is not much of a worker shortage.  Sure some people left the workforce due to childcare and covid fear but that isn't the issue anymore.  There are plenty of workers available!  What there isn't is plenty of workers willing to work for minimum wage or even worse.

As for the parks, they ARE whatever people think they are!  The parks do not just get to decide how they are seen as an employer because it is part time/seasonal and that "is how it has always been."   They will have to compete for workers and if their offer is not attractive enough they will be short staff and be providing an inferior product to their customers and we all know where that leads.

My point is that in the last 18 months the environment of employment has drastically changed.  Employers, including seasonal parks, will need to adjust to the new world or they can just hope for "the good old days" at their peril.
