Nickelodeon American Dream 3/18
« on: March 20, 2021, 09:02:26 am »
Now both fully vaccinated we are starting to venture out.  Thursday we went to NJ to the American Dream Mall and Nickelodeon. Of course, it is still masks and distancing but it was nice to get out.  The park has five coasters shoehorned into the rather small space.  We rode all five in about 90 minutes.  The park was not busy at 1 PM opening but was getting more busy as we left just after 2:30.  It is a nice space and the younger kids were certainly enjoying themselves.  The coasters are nothing special although Timmy's Half Pipe Havoc is certainly unique. It is a skateboard on a track, kind of like a Disco, with two sets of rotating seats one on each end.  I am sure there was some debate if it is a coaster or not but it does coast on the track so I guess it is.

The rest were pretty standard.  The Shredder was a Gerstlauer spinner and was fun.  The TMNT Shellraiser was a Eurofighter and damn painful! Talk about one and done.  It was worth the trip and great to get on some new coasters after such an empty 2020.

I think the concept for the Shredder and Shellraiser was good but might have been more of a success if it had been outdoors where they have more room to interlock the coasters.

Thanks for sharing your trip. I do hope I can swing by this place on a future trip.

How much did you have to pay for your visit?

We went on a weekday, which is off peak rate.  I got a senior discount for being older than dirt. So with all that it was $110 for the two of us. More pricey than I would want for a smaller park but since we haven't been anywhere forever I pulled the trigger.

So does the price make this a bit of a one-and-done sort of place? I have that feeling with mountain coasters 12-16 for one ride after one ride it's hard to justify a return.

Yep - we won't return unless they add new coasters which is not likely in the near term.  Like I said in the report, nothing special there.  It was fun and probably more so since we have not been to a new place in over a year, but not a regular visit place.

I expect it will be the same for Legoland NY if they get open this summer.  We wiil pay more than we would like for a new place.

Did you get to ride Sandy’s?  That looks fairly unique.
